Allison Inquiry | Mark Chapman | Day 3 September 10th, 2026

A 66-year-old former Navy helicopter and offshore pilot with 47 years of documented good health describes atrial fibrillation flagged by his watch the day after his third Pfizer dose. He describes exhaustion, cognitive decline, chronic pain, fainting, and emergency surgery for an unexplained ischemic colon this summer.

Mark Chapman, 66, flew Sea King helicopters for 25 years across some 30 years of military service, flew the Nova Scotia Air Ambulance, trained pilots on S-92 simulators, and later skippered an amphibious Halifax tour vehicle. He holds airline, marine and commercial driving licences, and his physicals and cardiac health were documented normal for 47 years. He was walking or running 12 to 15 kilometres several times a week. He received three Pfizer doses, the third on December 20, 2021, and says his Apple Watch flagged atrial fibrillation the very next day. He describes daily tachycardia, a heart rate that does not rise under stress, and exhaustion that left him winded on stairs. He says his memory and ability to organize thought faded, including blanking on a training presentation he had written and forgetting why he was driving. He describes an unsteady gait, poor coordination, numb feet, muscle contractions, whole-body pain, gastric problems, and fainting five times this summer. On June 27 he says he developed severe abdominal pain and bleeding, and surgeons found an unexplained thickening of the colon, followed by a paralyzed leg, a second hospital stay, and gallbladder surgery, with no explanation from doctors. He now uses a walker and electric scooter, and says he took the vaccines to keep working while his wife, a nurse, needed them for her job. MPs thank him for his service and ask about other pilots.
